UPDATE: Pro Import is now available as a standard feature in AE CS6, meaning you don’t need Automatic Duck or anything else to bring your XML sequences straight into the program! [7/15/12]
If you’re still using a version of After Effects prior than CS6, then the following is for you.
I’ve previously posted a few links for free scripts to convert FCP sequences into After Effects compositions. Lately, I’ve been noticing some of those were getting “buggy”, removing existing effects and filters, mis-reading frame rates and similar issues.
It now turns out there’s a better solution: Automatic Duck. “What? Wait! That costs $500!” I hear you cry. But no, not any more. A couple of months ago, the makers of Automatic Duck made their plug-ins available for FREE when they were hired by Adobe.
Workflow: Download and install the plug-in, export XML from FCP. Run plug-in inside After Effects (from the “File > Import >” menu) and hey, presto. Just tried it (FCP 7 and AE CS5 on my machine) and it works beautifully.
Vesper Stock is thrilled to announce we’ve sold 5,000 royalty free stock footage clips at istockphoto.com! We’re extremely grateful to the istock team, to all of the buyers, to the actors and models who appear in our work and to the crew who’ve joined us for various shoots. The 5,000th download was this night-time clip of the Mackinac Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere. The Mackinac Bridge crosses the Mackinac Straits between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, making a physical connection between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas.
Accountants, bean counters. They’re the guys in the back room keeping tabs on everything and sometimes telling you there’s no more money. Actor Alex Mendiola features in this new business series which also includes mentoring, corporate deal metaphors, bursting business bubbles, various detail shots and more. Find them in our People at Work lightbox. Recorded on the Sony PMW-EX3.
Silicon manufacture and inspection requires a completely clean environment. We have a new series featuring workers in head to foot coveralls, known as bunny suits. The yellow lighting is part of the photographic process that’s used to get circuit layouts on to the silicon slices, which are then processed and treated to create chips. Find these clips and more in our Science and Medicine lightbox. Recorded on the Sony PMW-EX3 and the Canon EOS 7D with the Canon 16-35L F2.8 and the Zeiss CP2 35mm lenses.
This beautiful clip featuring model Ideene Dehdashti with white rose petals slowly falling around her is this week’s Featured Video on istockphoto. The clip was shot on the EX3, overcranked to 60fps to create slower motion, and lit with a combination of natural light and a Kinoflo fixture for fill. Location was a local barn used for weddings and other celebrations, wardrobe courtesy of House of Elite Gowns, Ypsilanti, MI.
It’s great to have this as the featured video, especially as two of the clips from the same series were picked up by ABC and have been used in Good Morning America’s Extreme Love series trailer (their site has a trailer before the trailer). Other clips from this bride and groom series can be found in our Love and Romance lightbox
Wedding season is just around the corner, so in timely fashion our latest clips feature actors Ideene Dehdashti and Jonathan West portraying some different bride and groom scenarios. See what’s new in the Love and Romance lightbox. Recorded on the Sony PMW-EX3 and the Canon EOS 7D with the Canon 16-35L F2.8 and the Zeiss CP2 35mm lenses.
